:
This value indicates the presence of a safety feature located within the median of the roadway. Median safety features are generally intended to prevent vehicles from crossing between opposing lanes of traffic. Changes in safety features should be detailed in existing roadway segment whenever they are continuous over at least 50-percent of the roadway segment. Segment breaks specifically for safety features should be limited to locations where they represent a significant change to the roadway characteristics, or where they cannot be adequately described in terms of existing roadway segments. For example, a relatively short break in a median barrier (for emergency vehicle crossing) would not constitute a segment break, whereas the point at which the median barrier starts or ceases to be a predominant roadway characteristic would warrant a segment break. Median safety features are coded in addition to the median type, and may vary independently of the median type.
