Layer: Urban Areas Adjusted 2020 (ID: 7)

Name: Urban Areas Adjusted 2020

Display Field: ua_name

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: Depicts adjustments made to the 2020 Census-designated Urban Areas (only those with populations over 5,000) to include the adjacent areas with similar urban characteristics, such as commercial and workplace areas or other traffic-generating locations. Adjustments are also made to smooth logical transitions between urban vs. rural roadway classifications where roadways may repeatedly snake in and out of the original designated urban areas. Adjusted urban area boundaries are determined cooperatively between the Colorado Department of Transportation, local transportation planning officials and are approved by the Governor of Colorado and the Federal Highways Administration. Colorado's Adjusted 2020 UA Boundaries were cooperatively developed in 2023 and finalized with approval by FHWA in February 2025.
